Dads: Escort your student to school on Oct. 27

Dear parents, families, and friends: Greetings on behalf of the nearly 102,000 students and 16,000 employees of the DeKalb County School District (DCSD). As a father and educator, I am pleased that DCSD is participating in the Atlanta Million Fathers March on October 27, 2017. The theme is “Real Dads Read,” and that is a message the district wholeheartedly supports. The road to both deep teaching and learning, and college and career readiness, begins with literacy at home. The sooner our students begin to read, and the more it is modeled by parents, means our young people will begin acquiring the foundation necessary for a lifetime of learning and success. DCSD urges the fathers and men of DeKalb County to participate in the Atlanta Million Fathers March by doing the following: • Escort your student to school on Oct. 27 • Participate in a Million Fathers March activity • Take your child to the library • Give a child a book The DeKalb County School District is thankful for your continued support of literacy and achievement. Grab a book, sit down with a child, and let’s give the day to literacy and education! Regards, R. Stephen Green Superintendent/CEO DeKalb County School District
