Wynbrooke Elementary

Dekalb County Schools

Update: August 13

We had a great first week of school! Teachers spent this week getting students acclimated to the rituals and routines of school, getting to know their students, assessing and introducing students to the new curriculum. We are off to a fantastic start and expect many great things for the 2017-2018 school year! In preparation for the upcoming week, please take a moment to review the reminders below:

Uniforms:
It was great to see our students “dressed for success” during the first week of school. To ensure that we support the tradition of REQUIRED uniforms at Wynbrooke, please review the uniform policy located in the agenda planner and make the appropriate adjustments as needed.
Urgent uniform reminders:
• Shoes must be SOLID black or brown
• 1st-5th grade students must wear black or brown belts
Navy blue and white must be worn on Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Fridays are designated for school spirit wear attire. Students can wear a Wynbrooke spirit wear shirt with navy or khaki bottoms.
Jeans are not allowed unless announced in advanced by school administration. Students can also wear a regular school uniform.

Arrival Time:
Students are allowed to enter the school at 7:00 am.

On Monday, students will report to their designated Holding Rooms
PreK/K-Yellow Hall
1st Grade-Spanish Room on Red Hall
2nd Grade-Music Room
3rd Grade-Red Hall
4th and 5th Grades-Gymnasium

Students can be dropped off in the back near the gymnasium from 7:00 am-7:45 am and the bus loading zone from 7:20 am-7:45 am every day. The main entrance is not used for morning drop off because it interrupts the flow of traffic on our campus.

Dismissal Procedures:
Car riders will be dismissed from the gymnasium, not the main entrance, beginning at 2:15 pm. Parents are encouraged to remain in their cars, as gathering at the door of the gymnasium will slow down the dismissal process. Students will be escorted to your car. Please plan ahead and expect delays. Thanks in advance for the patience you will display as we work to make sure EVERY student gets home safely.

Important Documents and Paperwork:
Be sure that all paperwork received during Open House is completed and returned to your child’s teacher. If you are a returning Wynbrooke student and did not provide a current Proof of Residence, it is important that you do so this week. These items were due on Friday, August 11th.

Summer Enrichment Projects:
Summer Enrichment Projects for all returning Wynbrooke students were due to the homeroom teacher on Friday, August 11th. This is a Theme School requirement that will be graded and entered in Infinite Campus for each content area. Information has been available on our website since June 1st.

Don’t forget to submit your Growing Your Minds Parent Activity to your child’s teacher this week. We see this as a great tool that will allow you to share important information about your student.

Back to School Team Talk with 3rd-5th Grade Parents:
To ensure we are set for a successful school year, all 3rd-5th grade parents are encouraged to come out to our annual Back to School Team Talk and learn more about the Rituals and Routines of Wynbrooke Theme School on Thursday, August 17th 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. One volunteer hour will be offered.

DCSD will extend the school day one hour on Monday, August 21st due to the Solar Eclipse. Additional information will be sent home this week.

Several important meetings will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd . Please make plans to attend.
• Title I Stakeholder Planning Meeting at 5:15 PM
• ASEDP Parent Meeting 5:45 PM-6:15 PM
• PTA Meeting at 6:30 pm
