SOLAR ECLIPSE REMINDERS:
The eclipse will be viewed with the use of special purpose filters known as “eclipse glasses”. These class will be provided by the school district to every Wynbrooke student.
Please speak with your child about the importance of keeping the viewing glasses on while outside for this experience for safety purposes.
This permission form was sent home on Monday to inform you and to gain signed permission for your child/student to opt-in to the outside viewing of the 2017 Solar Eclipse. Should the permission slip not be returned, the student will remain inside the building to view via live streaming.
We are in need of a few volunteers to assist with moving students outside to view the eclipse and monitoring groups of students for safety. We will also need volunteers to assist in the classrooms with our “Solar Snacks”. We are requesting that parents consult with the classroom teacher for needed items such as moon pies, sun chips, milky ways, starburst, etc.
All volunteers must sign-in in the Main Office and also in the Parent Center
If you are planning to REPORT TO CAMPUS TO VOLUNTEER, TO VIEW THE ECLIPSE OR PICK UP YOUR CHILD EARLY, you will need to do so by 1:45pm. The parking lot entrances will be closed until all students are back in the building safely.
The school day will be extended for one additional hour on next Monday. We will begin dismissal at 3:15pm. Please plan accordingly. The after-school program will end at its normal time.

What you need to know: DeKalb County School District and the solar eclipse on Aug. 21
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA. - The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will extend its school day by one hour on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, to provide safe viewing and instructional opportunities related to the expected solar eclipse that day.
Here's what else you need to know about how the district will provide a safe viewing and learning experience:
Dismissal will occur one hour later than usual, at the end of the extended learning period. Our three-tier dismissal system starts with elementary schools, followed by high schools, and finally middle schools. Activities during the special learning period may include instructional lessons within all content areas, televised viewing of the eclipse, and actual viewing of the eclipse with the use of special purpose filters known as “eclipse glasses."
Three-year-olds in preschool will be dismissed at noon that day. Again, this only impacts 3-year-olds.
Students must have a signed and completed Solar Eclipse Opt-In and Release of Liability in order to participate.
Classes will be held on Aug. 21. If parents choose to keep students home on that day, the absence will be counted as unexcused. However, students will be allowed to make up any work that was missed that day.

Our eclipse glasses are safety-certified. DCSD will distribute special viewing glasses to students and staff. Our eclipse glasses are ISO 12312-2 compliant and CE certified.
According to NASA, the solar eclipse will occur across North America that day when the moon obscures 97.4 percent of the sun. The solar eclipse will be viewable around 1:02 p.m. and end at 4 p.m.
DCSD reminds its community that it is not safe to stare directly into the sun without special glasses, and it is providing lessons that will allow students to safely take advantage of the moment.
