Volunteer Opportunities

Theme School parents are required to complete 16 volunteer hours per school year per family.  In addition, all volunteer hours must be completed in order to return the following school year. If you would like to get an early start on your volunteer hours, please visit our website to access Sign Up Genius.

NEW PARENTS:  Parents needing to complete registration and/or submit documentation for new students must do so on Wednesday, August 1st during Open House.  Please know that students will not be placed on the class roster until the registration process is completed in its entirety. An informal New Parent Q & A will be held on Saturday, August 4th 9:00 am-10:15 am.

Class Rosters

Class Rosters will be available on Wednesday, August 1st during Open House. Our faculty dedicated an immense amount of time and energy to our class development process to ensure the best placement for each and every student. Teaching teams, Instructional Specialists and the Administrative Team took into account individual student needs through multiple lenses (effective and ineffective co-learners, academic strengths and growth areas, social development, and gender), to create balanced classroom communities for the coming year. Because we are unable to accommodate requests for specific teachers, our faculty and staff were asked to be very reflective during this process. I hope that you and your child(ren) will be excited to discover this year’s teacher(s) and classmates, as l am confident in all of our teachers’ ability to foster academic growth, social development, and community in their classrooms. The Administrative Team will not honor requests for teachers or classroom change.

Items to Purchase

PTA Membership and the use of Wynbrooke Agenda Planners are mandatory at DCSD Theme Schools and will be available for purchase. Agendas include the Wynbrooke student handbook. The cost for both PTA membership and the agenda planners combined is $20. Planners for siblings will be priced at $5.00 each. Wynbrooke Spirit wear will also be available for purchase. Online payment options will be available.

A supply list is available on our school website. Teachers are asking that students bring in supplies during open house or on the first day of school.  Be sure to mark items with your child’s name.  It is important to purchase the items specified on each class list.  Thank you for contributing to the needs of your child’s class.

First Days of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 6, 2018.  Remember, students must be in attendance on that day in order to hold their seat at Wynbrooke Traditional Theme School.

School  Hours

School hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Students may NOT be dropped off before 7:00 am.  Breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:30 a.m.  Students must be in the cafeteria by 7:30 a.m. if they plan to eat breakfast. Students arriving before 7:35 a.m. will report to the grade level holding room. Students will report to their homeroom class at 7:35 a.m. (On the first day of school, students will report directly to their class.) Students are tardy after 7:45 a.m.  Parents must walk all students to the front office to be checked in and obtain a tardy pass.  Instruction begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and dismissal begins at 2:15pm.  Remember, tardies impact instruction as well as receipt of perfect attendance awards. To protect the instructional time of our students, there will be no visits to the classroom during the instructional day unless prior arrangements have been made.

Transportation

Children who live outside a one-mile radius of Wynbrooke are provided transportation to and from school.  This is a service that your tax dollars provide.  Please utilize it.  We have over 800 students at Wynbrooke and if 10-30% of our parents try to bring students to school, traffic becomes horrendous!  The bus is the safest and easiest way to get children to school.  Be sure to stop by the transportation display near the cafeteria and get your route number and pickup time. Avoid the rush…ride the bus!

Car riders can be dropped off around the back of the school in our car rider area beginning at 7:00 a.m. or in the bus loading zone after the buses have departed at 7:25 a.m. For safety purposes, please do not enter the bus loading zone when buses are loading and unloadingThere will be no supervision for students before 7:00 a.m. Any one arriving after 7:45 a.m. is considered tardy and should report to the front office to receive a tardy slip.

Dismissal (NEW PROCEDURE)

Dismissal begins at 2:15 p.m.  Car riders will be dismissed to the gymnasium for pick-up. We will launch the use of Kidgopher, a secure child pick-up system that will make our dismissal process safer, more secure and more efficient through the use of technology. Please visit our website to learn more about the process. If your child will be a car rider, you will be required to REGISTER for Kidgopher during Open House. All parents must remain in their cars for afternoon parent pick-up rather than waiting at the main entrance of the school to ensure a safe and orderly dismissalAll car riders must be picked up by 2:45pm. (No exceptions). Please consider avoiding the rush and place your child(ren) on the bus.

We would like to invite all new and returning Wynbrooke parents to attend an informative session that will ensure a successful school year at Wynbrooke! Both sessions will begin at 6:00 pm in the Cafeteria. We hope that you will make plans to attend. You will earn (1) volunteer hour.
