Important Information for the 2018-2019 School Year

v Open House

Open House will be held Wednesday, August 1st from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. for returning and new students. During Open House, parents and students will meet teachers, join PTA which is mandatory at Theme Schools, purchase agendas, and receive other informational materials (lunch applications, transportation, insurance information, after-school care, PTA committees, etc.) for the upcoming school year. Please plan to enter the school through the gymnasium entrance. To better manage the flow of traffic, open house will be staggered according to last names. We encourage students with last names beginning with letters A-M to report between 1:00 pm-2:30 pm and students with last names beginning with letters N-Z to report between 2:30 pm-4:00 pm.

v Volunteer Opportunities

Theme School parents are required to complete 16 volunteer hours per school year per family.  In addition, all volunteer hours must be completed in order to return the following school year. If you would like to get an early start on your volunteer hours, please visit our website to access Sign Up Genius. We are in need of experienced painters or carpet cleaners with carpet cleaning equipment to assist with preparing our building for the opening of school. If you would like to donate your services to earn volunteer hours please visit our website to access Sign-Up Genius. July 17th-19th and 24th-26th.  Additional  volunteer opportunities will be available July 25th and 26th 9:00 am-3:00 pm.

v Registration

NEW PARENTS:  Parents needing to complete registration and/or submit documentation for new students must do so on Wednesday, August 1st during Open House.  Please know that students will not be placed on the class roster until the registration process is completed in its entirety. An informal New Parent Q & A will be held on Saturday, August 4th 9:00 am-10:15 am.

Health Records & Proof of Residence

Please bring any updated information to Open House (this may include a current lease, deed, gas or electric bill with parents/guardians current address).  All health records must be up to date. Remember immunizations must be on form #3231 and vision, hearing, and dental reported on form #3300.  Parents may obtain the required documents from either their physician or from one of the DeKalb County Health Centers.  All student records must be updated in order for your child to attend school.  In addition, please note that Social Security Cards are required for all students.

RETURNING PARENTS:  Parents returning to Wynbrooke must submit a current Proof of Residence (mortgage statement, lease agreement, gas or electric bill) to your child’s teacher. If you have more than one child, please bring a copy for each child’s file labeled with your child’s name. Other documents and forms should also be updated during Open House.  If your child’s name is not on a class roster, you will need to visit the class assignment table during Open House.

 v Class Rosters

Class Rosters will be available on Wednesday, August 1st during Open House. Our faculty dedicated an immense amount of time and energy to our class development process to ensure the best placement for each and every student. Teaching teams, Instructional Specialists and the Administrative Team took into account individual student needs through multiple lenses (effective and ineffective co-learners, academic strengths and growth areas, social development, and gender), to create balanced classroom communities for the coming year. Because we are unable to accommodate requests for specific teachers, our faculty and staff were asked to be very reflective during this process. I hope that you and your child(ren) will be excited to discover this year’s teacher(s) and classmates, as l am confident in all of our teachers’ ability to foster academic growth, social development, and community in their classrooms. The Administrative Team will not honor requests for teachers or classroom change.

v Items to Purchase

PTA Membership and the use of Wynbrooke Agenda Planners are mandatory at DCSD Theme Schools and will be available for purchase. Agendas include the Wynbrooke student handbook. The cost for both PTA membership and the agenda planners combined is $20. Planners for siblings will be priced at $5.00 each. Wynbrooke Spirit wear will also be available for purchase. Online payment options will be available.

 v Supplies

A supply list is available on our school website. Teachers are asking that students bring in supplies during open house or on the first day of school.  Be sure to mark items with your child’s name.  It is important to purchase the items specified on each class list.  Thank you for contributing to the needs of your child’s class.

v Summer Enrichment Project

The required Summer Enrichment Projects were made available on our website to ensure students’ engagement in learning during the summer. The Summer Enrichment Project is due to the homeroom teacher on Friday, August 10, 2018. Be sure to follow instructions provided for submission. Students will receive a grade in Infinite Campus for completion during the 9- week grading period. For additional information, please visit our web page.

v After-School Care

The afterschool program will once again be available for Wynbrooke students.  The program provides academic support, snacks, enrichment, and daily recreation from 3:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.  Registration for the program will take place during Open House. The fee is $60 per week with a $25 non-refundable registration fee. Cashier checks or money orders are the preferred methods of payment.

v Free and Reduced Lunch Forms

Free/reduced lunch applications must be completed online at www.schoolcafe.com. Computers will be available during open house. Please remember that lunch forms must be completed each year.  Students will be responsible for paying for breakfast and lunch until lunch forms are processed and approved. The cost for meals is as follows: breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $2.60.

v Electronic Communication

The use of our school website and email will be our primary form of communication outside of the student’s agenda.  Please be prepared to provide your homeroom teacher with a current email address that you plan to check regularly. If you would like to join our Wynbrooke School Community on REMIND, text the message @baa926 to the number 81010Thanks in advance for supporting our efforts to “Go Green!”

v First Days of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 6, 2018.  Remember, students must be in attendance on that day in order to hold their seat at Wynbrooke Traditional Theme School.

 v School  Hours

School hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Students may NOT be dropped off before 7:00 am.  Breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:30 a.m.  Students must be in the cafeteria by 7:30 a.m. if they plan to eat breakfast. Students arriving before 7:35 a.m. will report to the grade level holding room. Students will report to their homeroom class at 7:35 a.m. (On the first day of school, students will report directly to their class.) Students are tardy after 7:45 a.m.  Parents must walk all students to the front office to be checked in and obtain a tardy pass.  Instruction begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and dismissal begins at 2:15pm.  Remember, tardies impact instruction as well as receipt of perfect attendance awards. To protect the instructional time of our students, there will be no visits to the classroom during the instructional day unless prior arrangements have been made.

 v Transportation

Children who live outside a one-mile radius of Wynbrooke are provided transportation to and from school.  This is a service that your tax dollars provide.  Please utilize it.  We have over 800 students at Wynbrooke and if 10-30% of our parents try to bring students to school, traffic becomes horrendous!  The bus is the safest and easiest way to get children to school.  Be sure to stop by the transportation display near the cafeteria and get your route number and pickup time. Avoid the rush…ride the bus!

Car riders can be dropped off around the back of the school in our car rider area beginning at 7:00 a.m. or in the bus loading zone after the buses have departed at 7:25 a.m. For safety purposes, please do not enter the bus loading zone when buses are loading and unloadingThere will be no supervision for students before 7:00 a.m. Any one arriving after 7:45 a.m. is considered tardy and should report to the front office to receive a tardy slip.

v Dismissal (NEW PROCEDURE FOR CAR RIDERS)

Dismissal begins at 2:15 p.m.  Car riders will be dismissed to the gymnasium for pick-up. We will launch the use of Kidgopher, a secure child pick-up system that will make our dismissal process safer, more secure and more efficient through the use of technology. Please visit our website to learn more about the process. If your child will be a car rider, you will be required to REGISTER for Kidgopher during Open House. All parents must remain in their cars for afternoon parent pick-up rather than waiting at the main entrance of the school to ensure a safe and orderly dismissalAll car riders must be picked up by 2:45pm. (No exceptions). Please consider avoiding the rush and place your child(ren) on the bus.

v Back to School Parent Orientation

We would like to invite all new and returning Wynbrooke parents to attend an informative session that will ensure a successful school year at Wynbrooke! You will have an opportunity to learn about our new initiatives and other school wide rituals and routines, meet personnel and connect with other Wynbrooke families.  The session for K-2 parents will be held Tuesday, August 7th and for 3-5 parents on Thursday, August 9th. Both sessions will begin at 6:00 pm in the Cafeteria. We hope that you will make plans to attend. You will earn (1) volunteer hour.

v Save the Dates
